Art Studio BFA Admissions Guidelines
Applicants must meet university requirements for admission and must first be admitted to the Bachelor of Arts Program.
Application will be reviewed in Spring semester for admission to the following Fall and in Fall semester for admission for the following Spring semester.
Application deadlines shall be two weeks prior to registration for the following semester.
Requirements
Students must meet the following requirements to qualify:
- Complete all lower division Art Studio and Art History requirements and have at least one upper division class in your chosen area.
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA in Art Studio and Art History.
- Complete all lower division GE requirements.
Admissions Review
To be considered for the BFA admissions review applicants must submit the following:
- 10-20 digital images on both thumb drive
- An image list
- Two Art Studio faculty signatures (or two letters of recommendation if not a currently enrolled SSU student)
- A short statement including their reasons for applying
- Evidence of eligibility in the form of unofficial transcripts or ARR printout
Artwork submitted should be advanced, conceptually driven and thematically consistent.
Studio faculty will review the application on the following criteria:
- Quality of craft
- A clear demonstrated work ethic
- Evidence of meaningful research
- Articulation of a clear concept
- Demonstrated growth
- Aesthetic interest
Guidelines for Formatting Your Text and Image
Email Leigh McTaggart (mctaggle@sonoma.edu) your intention to apply to the BFA program. Leigh will email you a link to your own google drive. Please upload your application material, including completed application form, artist statement, and images, by the application deadline, 5:00 pm March 28, 2024.
Artist Statement
Please submit a single page statement addressing your reasons for applying and the work our are submitting as a PDF document i.e., "LastName_FirstName_Statement.pdf"
Image List
Please submit this as a PDF document i.e. "LastName_FirstName_Image_List.pdf" List your images in the order that they will appear in your submission.
- Name, Date
- Excerpt from Series Title (if needed)
- Dimensions (H x W x D of actual work in inches)
- Medium(s)

Digital Image Files:
Upload digital images of your work samples to the google drive link that was sent to you.
Please format them as follows:
- Maximum width 1200 pixels on the longest side. Do not stretch or warp your image! Make sure you resize your image so height and width are proportionate (linked).
- Resolution 72ppi
- File type: JPEG (maximum quality)
- Color Profile: sRGB
Please use this protocol when naming your files. This will insure that they are in numerical order in your folder: •
